Varying job

Recruit-plan about a varying job
The workers of a simple and one-sided job should change their job description f.ex. within 3 different companys/employments/assignments. In this case you would be one day working there, one day here, and so on.

f.ex.

- cleaner

-factory worker

-guard

-telemarketer

The working hours should be long enough so that there would be many experienses of succsess. (Antti K. )

Employees could also use 1-2 hours/day working for NGOs or social enterprises. Their employer(s) would pay the salary for this time, too. They would get profiled as supporting a good cause and their employees would be happier and more productive when they contribute to something meaningful.

Besides giving more meaning to the life of those with simple jobs, this would solve another problem: NGOs are lacking executor-people.

According to my experience in AIESEC and my friends' experiences in other NGOs, typical NGO membership is twisted. There is

  • an army of mentors who support the cause and have a lot of experience and are ready to give advice if needed
  • a nice bunch of visionary people, who like to brainstorm and plan and dream big
  • few executor-people who carry all the workload

Although, to produce social impact effectively, an organization would need

  • few experienced and wise mentors to coach
  • a nice bunch of visionary people, who like to brainstorm and plan and dream big
  • an army of executor-people who make the plans happen

Where are all the executor-people then? Maybe they are at the factories doing the simple nine-to-five jobs and spending evenings with their families. Maybe the simple jobs attract executors because there they can do something concrete and get a concrete salary in return. Rewards from NGO work are fluffy: self-development, networking, feeling of personal contribution, etc. Maybe the reason why NGOs attract people who want to do something fluffy and are fine with getting something fluffy in return.

This model would make it fine for executors to work for societal impact, because it would become part of their job description. At the same time, NGOs would get that army of executors they need if they want to do meaningful things effectively.
